Medicine Cards by Jamie Sams & David Carson (with absolutely beautiful artwork by Angela Werneke) is THE foundational animal oracle deck. It is a best seller and has been around for over 30 years and remains, in my opinion, one of the best oracle decks out there. It is Native American in orientation and created from the heart. I use it in many ways. One of those ways: if I have any interesting animal encounters, I check the book to see what message that animal may be bringing to me. I also use it to do readings and to understand issues as well. If I am drawn to a certain animal, I check out the Medicine Cards book to aid in discovering why that animal's medicine is trying to get my attention. The newest edition of this deck includes eight additional cards, for a total of 52 cards in the set. It also includes a hardback guidebook. Another cool thing about this deck is that it includes a bunch of blank "shields" (cards) so you can create your own animal medicine cards - ones that may not be included in the deck, for instance. FYI, a good companion deck for this is The Sacred Path Cards. I use these two decks in combination sometimes - doing a reading with the Sacred Path Cards and choosing a card from the Medicine Cards as an animal medicine to "boost" or add to my reading. Lots of potential and many uses for the Medicine Cards.
